Re: Remember this place II
John,
Do you remember the name of the hamburger small drive thru on the NE corner of Lewis and Holt?? They had two lanes and was patterned after In-N-Out in its layout. As I remember they made a very good hamburger and it was very popular in the late 50's and early 60's. Roger

Re: Remember this place II
I was just doing an online search cuz even though I don't remember the Taco Burger, it sounded really good. In my search, I found that the Taco Bell in El Monte (address & phone number below) still sells the Bell Beefer (or Bell Burger) and the Enchirito. The post I found was from 2007 so I am assuming they still have it, but the phone number is listed just in case.
Taco Bell 4134 N. Peck Rd. El Monte, CA 91734 (626) 442-0840 North of Ramona Blvd. If you aren't in the area but have a Taco Bell nearby, here is someone's blog site that shows you how to recreate that past. ![]() Also, there is/was a Taco Lita in Arcadia. They have been there for over 40 years, which makes me wonder if they are from the same chain as the one in Pomona...and the one DavBan was talking about. Their address is 120 E Duarte Rd, Arcadia, 91006 ph: (626) 445-2889. If they are still there, maybe they make that burger. But then again, nothing ever seems to be as great as how we remembered it in our youth. Maybe you wouldn't want to ruin the memory after all (smile). |

Re: Remember this place II
Just last week, I got my youngest really thought I'd gone over edgs. There was left over taco fixings and all the tortillas were gone so I made a taco burger. Not as good as Taco Lita, but not bad either.

I think it was called Burger Lane, there was another of the same name in the Chino area. Burger Lane had the best shakes, so thick you couldn't drink them with a straw. |

Oh sweet Jeezus... yes, Burger Lane was the best Hamburger place in the entire Universe. Me and my pals Chuck and Robbie would always stop there after the Giant football games... Later, when I became a "hippie", Mac, Bill, Pat, Kenny, the Burgesses and many others would drive through and woof down as many of those culinary delights as we could afford. ...and the fries!!! Oh dear lord!! JP

Re: Remember this place II
Yes, that was the name! I lived off of Lewis north of Orangegrove and had a paper route and I spoiled many of my Mom's dinners stopping off at Burger Lane for a shake or a burger! I am glad to know that I am not the only one that remembers that place!

Re: Remember this place II
Doesn't Lewis dead end into St. Joes? My friend said there was a drive thru dairy on that corner where she would always buy popsicles on the way home from school? Was that Burger Lane (or In and Out) that was farther west, down on Erie and Holt?

Re: Remember this place II
You know John, your "Remember This Place" threads were some of my favorites. They were such fun to look back and try to guess what the place is now. One of these days, it would be so cool if they were started back up. They were such fun.
Remember the whole conversation that was started with the photo of that little Mexican fast food place in front of the U-haul store on Garey (the one that also cut hair in the back)? Their sign looked like a cat standing in a litterbox, and that prompted Darin to do the whole "how almond roca is made" post. Ha ha. Now THAT was funny. |

Roger I didn't want to come right out and ask you what you were smoking in order to put that Burger lane at lewis and Holt but Karla is right. Lewis dead ends at at St joe's church and there was never a burger joint there that I know of. Karla Yes there was a dairy there I used to stop at before and after school at St Joe's. The Remember that place threads were one of my best ideas and they were a lot of fun. They were also a lot of work taking pics and posting them and quizing you all about the locations. I was also running out of ideas for them. Things have changed a lot since those days if you know what I mean and I'm not so sure I want to put in that much effort anymore. |

The dive thru dairy was our standard place to run to for something during twice a days. Between practice and chalk talks.

When I worked there in the 73 or 74 it was called "Big Burger" It was seriously patterned after "In 'N Out". Same menu, same format. TJ

Re: Remember this place II
Driving in this morning they were discussing "mooning" on the radio. The one I remember most was about '68 driving past the girls dorms at Cal Poly. Sticking out a third floor window was a moon with a black bowler hat on top, a pair of fake plastic large black rimmed glasses where eyes would be, and a cigar stuck below in her crack. I had to pull over, I was laughing so hard.

Re: Remember this place II
Lewis dead ends at at St joe's church and if you look just to the left of the church parking lot there is a little resturant/shack/building. Some years ago it was turned into a White Castle but didn't last long.

Re: Remember this place II
It's been awhile since I been here. You were talking about Burger Lane and I had to jump in. I worked there from '70 to '72 and was the night manager during the later part. It was the first light down from Ganesha Blvd on Holt. I don't remember what the side street was. We saw many drag races start from our corner, it was about 1/2 to 3/4 mile down to Ganasha. I ate many of my dinners there, and I got tired of fries for awhile. I was always munching on them while cooking on the grill. We also had french dip and pastrami sandwiches, besides the Big Burger.

Re: Remember this place II
How about the grinder place. Diganges (sp) and the 69 cent meatball subs. West side of Holt sort of across from church. One of the places we frequented after the beach along with a bag of wings for a buck at Knott't.

There is a "Grinder Haven" at San Antonio and Holt in Ontario that reminds me of the old "Digangi's" subs in Pomona. In fact there sandwiches are identical to Digangi's right down to the home baked rolls. I asked at one time if there was a connection between the two places but among the kids working at the Grinder Haven you could add their ages and still not had enough years to remember Digangi's in Pomona. Unfortunately Bill you won't get a meatball sub for anything close to 69 cents anymore. They are still delicious though. |

Dale... you gotta post the recipe for a "Big Burger"!! I want one so bad!!! Back in '68 we could cash-in a couple of six packs of soda bottles (Coke , Pepsi etc.) and have enough for a couple of Big Burgers w/fries... Then we'd cash-in another six-pack for enough gas to get us to the beach and back in Mac's old Studebaker. ![]() JP

My wife worked at buger lane, there were two of them one in pomona, the other by Vinces on holt in ontario. the was owned by a husband and wife, the wife ran them, as the husband was a chp officer. So when cops would come in they always ate for free.
